Yoga and Being Yelled at...

I have now officially completed four yoga classes! I had my first two yesterday, and then again today I had two. I like the yoga class at school- it is taught VERY differently though!
The first thing we do before the class starts is the girls have to put on pants or tights underneath their dresses (probably a good idea...), and then we go down to the basement for class. The class is taught in a room with white walls, cement floors covered by colorful (and thin) mats, with extra desks stored on the sides. The room is always dark and the fans are always turned on for class.
The first yoga "pose" that I did here in India was actually not really a pose, but rather an interesting warm up exercise. We all sit cross legged on the mats and close our eyes for a few seconds before starting with our eyes- we first move them "up! Down!" as our teacher instructs, and then "left! Right!" after that. The class then proceeds with some posing (difficulty level ranges by what grade level the class is) that is all very "rhythmic." The teacher will say a pose, and then as we go into it, she will count "one! two! three! (etc. to ten or fifteen)" and then "switch!" After each pose we go into a resting position that is either lying on our backs with the palms up, standing up straight, or cross-legged, and we are told to close our eyes. At the end or beginning of each period, we meditate for about a minute on God- chanting a mantra as we go.
Yesterday I thought that yoga was going to be an easy and fun class- that was until I woke up this morning SO SORE from it! My muscles have been aching all day!
Today I joined my ninth grade math class for History for the first time. It was after my yoga period, and after rushing up the stairs to get to class I was thirsty and took out my water bottle and started drinking when I sat down. The teacher stopped talking, and when I looked up at her she yells "You are breaking rule! No water in class!" I was a little embarrassed, and apologized quickly as I slipped my bottle back into my bag...just another one of those cultural differences that I'm learning!

Oops!

I guess you'd better learn to drink BEFORE class, WHILE running up the stairs. Um, without choking, of course. :D

Ah, well... live and learn.

Every time I do something inappropriate in India — and it gets called to my attention — I just figure that it wasn't my first mistake or my worst mistake, and it certainly won't be my LAST mistake! :D

Pretty soon, you'll become almost immune to embarrassment. Think of embarrassing moments as a sort of vaccination, helping you develop immunity. And expect to get a number of "booster shots" along the way.

Do keep yourself hydrated, just be careful of WHERE you "hydrate." haha

Sounds like yoga will be really good for you. When my muscles are sore from working out — which in my case means: working, outdoors — I keep reminding myself: "It hurts so gooood."

Have fun!

Sounds like we're both getting yelled at lately... :)

I'll talk to you via FB from now on so as not to be offensive to anyone.

Love ya forever and ever kid!

Well, shoot! Your teasing is (for some of us) part of the fun of following this blog. :(

Personally, I think you're funny — and nice, and totally positive. Different strokes for different folks, I guess. In my case, I'd rather "yell" at people (and be yelled at) privately, if any yelling is ever actually necessary.

Still, I admit, it's extremely helpful to know if and when we've inadvertently offended someone, so we can avoid further hurting anyone's feelings. So I do appreciate the message, regardless of the medium.

Maybe you can compromise and write on Madison's FB Wall? :D Then I can laugh along with you. hehehe

I'll keep posting Comments here. See the mention of booster shots, above. ;)
